Liverpool stunned by Atalanta in Europa League quarterfinal first leg
Reds fall to 3-0 defeat at home, leaving them with an uphill battle in the second leg
Klopp's side was outplayed by the Italian visitors, who took a deserved lead through Papu Gomez in the 23rd minute
Liverpool and its manager Jürgen Klopp were left stunned after losing 3-0 at home in the first leg of its Europa League quarterfinal against Atalanta. This is the first proper European test for Liverpool, and a much changed and weakened side fell to a sloppy defeat away at Toulouse in the previous round.
The Italian side visited the blue half of Liverpool in 2017 in the group stages of the Europa League, leaving Goodison with a 5-1 victory. Atalanta stunned Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday, with goals from Josip Ilicic and Robin Gosens adding to Gomez's opener.
Benfica defeated Marseille, Roma won away at Milan, and Leverkusen saw off West Ham in the other Europa League quarterfinal first legs.
