International Children's Day: A Global Celebration
A Day for Children, by Children
International Children's Day is an annual observance that celebrates the well-being and rights of children worldwide. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) designates this day as its annual action day for children by children to mark the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
A Historical Perspective
The idea of International Children's Day originated in 1949 when the Women's International Democratic Federation in Moscow declared June 1 as the day to honor children. In 1954, the International Children's Day was established by a recommendation of the United Nations General Assembly and has since been celebrated annually on June 1.
June 1, 2024
In 2024, International Children's Day will fall on a Saturday, June 1. This day provides an opportunity for children and adults alike to reflect on the importance of children's rights, celebrate their achievements, and advocate for their well-being.
