ED Freezes Over Rs 50 Crore Worth Assets
During the searches, the ED froze assets worth over Rs 50 crore, including 21 immovable properties. The agency also seized documents and electronic devices from the raided premises.
The ED's probe is based on a complaint filed by the West Bengal government, which alleged that there was a scam in the distribution of ration through the state's Public Distribution System (PDS). The government alleged that rice meant for distribution through the PDS was being diverted to the black market, and that officials were involved in the scam.
The ED has registered a money laundering case against several individuals and companies in connection with the scam. The agency is investigating the role of government officials, millers, and other individuals in the alleged diversion of rice meant for the PDS.
